Rocky Point continues to be an opportunity for the few who have the ability to see outside the box – or should I say media.

Puerto Peñasco = Rocky Point  The History of a Small Town in Mexico

A small urban town located where the Sonoran Desert meets the Sea of Cortez, 65 miles south of the Arizona/Mexico border is called Puerto Peñasco Mexico.  To the Americans this town has adapted the name Rocky Point.    Puerto Penasco is translated as Rocky Port.

The town was first settled in the 1920’s, but didn’t start developing until 1936.  Mexico’s President came to Rocky Point and started the process to build a railroad, which offered more opportunity to travel and trade.  Up until about twenty years ago tourism had again decreased, and was mainly in the form of camping on the beach, going fishing and partying.

There are picturesque beaches with beautiful waters that stretch for a hundred miles north and south. In the early 1990’s Mexican law changed to allow more foreign investment in property and business. This has given Puerto Peñasco a third opportunity to grow. Many private and commercial projects have come to Puerto Peñasco which has helped make Mexico another destination.  Since the development in Rocky Point thousands of Americans have built homes here. Now you can be next!

April 24 & 25th Food Packing/Distribution

hpim14361,200 boxes were packed and sealed by volunteers to be delivered to the newest colonias. The Foundation pays all expenses for this huge food distribution two times per year.

Each box contains:
- 2 kilos of corn flour (maseca)
- 2 kilos of wheat flour (harina)
- 2 kilos of beans (frijoles)
- 2 kilos of rice (arroz)
- 1 pound of oatmeal (avena)
- 1 kilo of salt (sal)
- 1 kilo of sugar (azucar)
- 1 box of cookies (galletas)
- 1 bag of candy (dulces)
- 1 liter of oil (aceite)
- 1 liter of milk (leche)
- 1 liter of juice (jugo)

This is the SOME (So Others May Eat) Program which the Larry D. Large Foundation started over three years ago. Every time we do this distribution, we encounter many families who literally have no food left in their homes to eat that day. This is a true Win/Win situation for the families receiving the food, and all the generous volunteers that offer their time to make this program work.
